The real reason West Ham does not have an option to buy Carlos Soler has been revealed, and it is shocking. The Spaniard reportedly earns €240k a week at PSG which the Hammers would be unable to pay. 

The deadline day signing was one that caused complete confusion within the West Ham fanbase. At the start of the day, it looked unlikely to happen as not one of the players that was made available for transfer had left. However, things started to move as James Ward-Prowse agreed on a loan switch to Nottingham Forest.

This and Maxwel Cornet going to Southampton allowed the Hammers to go forward with the Soler signing. At first, many believed the deal was to be a season-long loan with a €20m option to buy. However, Steidten revised that offer and switched it to just a dry loan.

There was some confusion as to whether it was going to be a one or two-year loan, but it turned out to be just a season-long loan with the Hammers paying around half of his wages according to reports.

There is no chance the Hammers are covering all of Carlos Soler’s wages. West Ham spokesman exclusively told Hammers News: “Soler is on £240k a week at PSG,” this would put him on almost double the club’s next highest earner.

It will be interesting to see what happens next summer if Steidten and Lopetegui wish to make the deal permanent, Soler would have to at least half his wages to get a permanent move to East London. With what will be two years left on his contract in the French capital, he might have to forfeit £12m in wages in that period to secure a move.
