West Ham youngsters Lewis Orford and Josh Ajala have both been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for August.

At the time of writing the Hammers are currently sat joint top of the PL2 table after the opening three matches. Arsenal as well as Nottingham Forest who are level on points with the Hammers and have the same goal difference too also have two players each among those nominated for the player of the month award.

Orford, who recently put pen to paper on a brand new five year deal with the club, has played a huge part in the young Hammers excellent start to the season. The 18 year old midfielder has featured in every minute of the season so far, in the 21’s three games so far Orford has registered three assists and also war the captains armband in the young Hammers win against Norwich.

Since he made his first start at PL2 level in the first game of the season against Brighton, forward Josh Ajala has certainly adjusted well to life with the U21’s. The 17 year old has scored three goals in the Hammers first three games and this excellent form has seen him earn himself a call up to the England U19’s squad, where he made his debut in a 2-2 draw versus Italy.

The other players nominated for August’s PL2 player of the month award include: Aaron Bott (Nottingham Forest), Khayon Edwards (Arsenal), Nathan Butler Oyedekji (Arsenal), Jack Fletcher (Manchester United), Kristian Sekularac (Fulham) and Kyle McAdam (Nottingham Forest).

The Premier League Football Development Panel will name the winner of the award on Friday September the 13th at 10am.

Meanwhile the Premier League returns this week with West Ham heading into a London derby with Fulham at Craven Cottage, with our Hammers looking to bounce back from defeat against Manchester City ahead of this international break.
