West Ham Academy goalkeeper Mason Terry is looking to kick on as he continues his positive loan experience at Hornchurch.

Having already played more than 40 senior appearances, 19 year old goalkeeper Mason Terry who has been at West Ham since he was nine years old, already has more experience under his belt than many academy keepers of the same age. Looking to emulate the likes of Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope who succeeded in non league before climbing up the footballing pyramid and reaching the Premier League, Terry is taking the challenges of National League football in his stride.

Just like in his first loan spell away from the Hammers, Terry is already becoming loved by the fans at his current club Hornchurch. Although they are currently sat in mid table in the National League South, Hornchurch have one of the best defensive records in the entire league, with 19 year old Terry having recorded three clean sheets.

The 2022/23 season was a massively successful campaign for the Hammers U18 side and Terry was the 18’s first choice keeper during that year. The young shot stopper has been open in admitting that these next steps in his progression and playing regular senior football has been a huge difference from winning the league at Chadwell Heath.

In his first season out on loan with Concord Rangers, Terry would be on the losing side in 22 of his 34 games. Although Concord were ultimately relegated, Terry gave a good account of himself and produced consistent standout performances which saw him win the side’s Supporters Player of the Season award.

Discussing his first season on loan with the clubs Official Website, Terry said: “Spending a season on loan was all about building my CV and getting a taste of men’s football. It was a bit of a shock, coming from a winning environment.

“Playing in front of a thousand fans, having them shouting at me, giving me loads of stick, calling me West Ham reject ! Mentally it was tough to deal with because you don’t experience that kind of environment at youth level.”

Looking ahead to his aims and ambitions for this current season as well as his hopes for the future, Terry said: “My aim is to get another 40 games this year, I’m hoping we can push for promotion. I think the play – offs would be a really good achievement. The team is full of experienced players and there is a real togetherness among the group.

Going on to touch on his dreams as well as his clear vision for the future, the young shot stopper added: “When I look at English goalkeepers like Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope, Aaron Ramsdale and Dean Henderson, they all went out on multiple loans and played loads of men’s football. The pathway is something that inspires me. I want to work my way up the pyramid and reach the top.”
