West Ham appear to be deciding against signing John Egan on a free transfer, it has been reported by ExWHUEmployee.
As had been exclusively reported previously by Ex, the club arranged a trial for Egan in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Dagenham & Redbridge last week – which West Ham won 5-0, with Egan playing half of the 60 minute match.
It was anticipated that the club would offer the player a short term contract for the season to come in as 4th choice centre-back, however its understood that Kaelan Casey will instead be trusted with that role.
“Whilst West Ham have not fully made their decision on the future of John Egan however, it seems unlikely that he will now join the club,” stated Ex on The West Ham Way Patreon. “Staff within the club were undecided on whether a new centre back addition on a free transfer was the right thing to do.
“John Egan, the former Sheffield United defender played in a behind closed door friendly for the club and had trained with the first team.
“Our top source has described the transfer of Egan as “5 percent” likely to happen. At the moment the club do not think they will bring in other player and that Kaelan Casey could be trusted to be that forth choice defender for now.
“We will keep you updated on any developments either with this player or other potential free transfer deals.”
