West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui praises star player for his versatility and hints at using him in a different role.

Lee Carsley has done a great job as caretaker manager for England so far. He has introduced a new footballing philosophy and made bold decisions which have, so far, paid off.

One such decision was playing Jarrod Bowen up top. While this is something David Moyes did a lot during his last season as West Ham manager, Julen Lopetegui is yet to use the Englishman outside of the right wing position.

With Niclas Fullkrug injured and Antonio in poor form, many expected Lopetegui to play Bowen as a striker against Fulham, but he opted to start the Jamaican instead.

Despite not choosing to use him in a position he is clearly more than able in, the gaffer is well aware of the versatility that the winger offers. His best position? On the pitch,”  Lopetegui joked.

“But it depends. He can play different positions, on the right, as a striker, number 10 too. Good players can always adapt. The smart players even more.”

Bowen’s 100th goal involvement, which came in the form of a 95th minute assist against Fulham, is just another step towards him becoming a East London legend. He brings things to the team that no other player can, but it’s just about how you get the best out of those abilities in the system that Lopetegui wants to play.
