West Ham women’s team have named Australian midfielder Katrina Gorry their club captain for the 2024/25 campaign.

Shelina Zadorsky will take up the role of vice captain for the upcoming season. Since signing for West Ham at the start of 2024, both Gorry and Zadorsky have had a big impact at the club on as well as off the pitch.

Gorry, nicknamed Mini, made seven appearances last season before picking up an injury in March which would rule her out for the rest of the campaign. During those games, the 32 year old Australian international helped Rehanne Skinner’s side pick up seven points, which included the Hammers first ever WSL win against Arsenal in February.

The midfielder is vastly experienced, having won 107 caps for Australia and having made more than 250 appearances in a club career where Gorry has played for sides all around the world including in her native Australia, Canada, the US, Japan, Norway and now of course in England.

Speaking to the clubs Official Website ahead of the Hammers first WSL game of the season this weekend away at Manchester United, the 32 year old discussed her excitement at the opportunity to wear the armband this season as well as her hopes for a successful season with her team mates.

“It’s a massive honour to be named captain of West Ham United and to be given the opportunity to lead such an incredible group of people. It was a special moment when I had the conversation with Rehanne and she asked me to be captain. I was really emotional as it is something I don’t take lightly.” said Gorry.

Reflecting on her time at the club so far, the midfielder went on to add: “Since I walked through the door at West Ham for the first time, I have felt fully supported by everyone at the club. I feel really happy in this environment, and I can represent my best self here.

Looking ahead to the start of the Hammers WSL season at the weekend as well as leading out her team mates for the first time, Gorry said: “To step out at Old Trafford wearing the captain’s armband for the first time on Saturday will be a great honour, and I’m really looking forward to this next chapter in our famous Claret and Blue.”
