West Ham’s technical director Tim Steidten has set one of his Summer signings a unique challenge.
Following the departure of David Moyes and the appointment of Julen Lopetegui, it was of the utmost importance that West Ham built upon the strong foundations of their squad to rebuild into something excellent. On paper, Steidten and his recruitment team have done just that.
Not only did the Hammers spend big, but they also spent effectively, signing players like Kilman and Wan-Bissaka who have already proven themselves to be key players for Lopetegui. Alongside them were the likes of Todibo, Fullkrug, and Summerville who may not have had the ideal start to life in East London, they will hopefully become key cogs in the system.
However, the latter of the three may be the most exciting due to the potential . At just 22-years-old, Summerville has the potential to be a genuinely world-class player.
Given the fact that he was the Championship’s player of the season in 2023/24, it’s a miracle that the Irons even managed to secure his signature, but he clearly believes that the London Stadium is the best place for him to develop.
As he has been with so many players, Steidten was crucial in selling the West Ham project to the winger, but he also challenged Summerville in an interesting way.
According to The Athletic, the German urged the Dutchman to follow in the footsteps of Mohammed Kudus who has not only stepped up to the challenge of the Premier League, but he’s also improved upon his game overall.
If Summerville is able to progress in the way the Ghanaian has then our Irons will have another unbelievable talent on their hands. He’s clearly willing to put the work in, but can the club get the best out of him?
