Carlton Cole admits that he is “disappointed” in former West Ham star for how his career panned out.
In the Premier League era alone, West Ham have had some extremely talented players. Dimitri Payet, Di Canio, Rio Ferdinand, Mohammed Kudus, Joe Cole, and many, many more. However, there’s one player who had the potential to be the best of the lot, a player who should have been the next big star in football.
When Ravel Morrison is mentioned, it’s impossible not to imagine what could have been. When he joined West Ham in 2012, he had the world at his feet. What he had the ability to go on to achieve is unimaginable, but it wasn’t to be.
His attitude and off-field antics meant he’d never go on to reach his potential, despite the raw talent he possessed, something that irks Carlton Cole. “Ravel Morrison, he should have been up there [with the best],” the former West Ham striker stated. “I was very disappointed with him.”
“Some of the stuff you saw from him, you couldn’t get the ball off him – like nobody, no matter who you were. That just tells you how good he was, he was some player.”
Given that he’s only 31-years-old, there’s another world where he’s considered amongst the best footballers of the past generation, unfortunately we never got to witness that. What his story does do is serve as a brilliant example of how talent is nothing without hard work.
