West Ham have been handed a massive boost ahead of their clash with Chelsea this weekend.

The London derby against Chelsea is always one of the fixtures that fans look out for. It’s a matchup full of history, drama, and one that is usually evenly matched, meaning it can be decided by small margins.

Whether it’s a coincidence or not, there’s no denying that some officials are statistically against a team. West Ham had someone like Mike Dean who always seemed to favour the opposition, while Chelsea have Stuart Attwell.

The referee has taken charge of 22 matches involving the Blues, they’ve won just 5 of those.

While he isn’t going to be the man in the middle of the park, he will still be able to have a massive influence on the game as head of VAR.

Understandably, Chelsea fans are outraged with the decision to give him the role, but there’s nothing the club can really do about it. To call out the decision to appoint him would hint towards some corruption in the league, something the higher ups would undoubtedly punish.

With that being said, in a way you do have to feel for them, it’s so frustrating having to sit back and watch a referee who clearly doesn’t want to favour your side. Although it benefits our Irons, it would be much better to win without any controversy, after all if a win is deserved then there can be no complaints.
