West Ham supporter and American golf star Billy Horschel won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth at the weekend, claiming the title for the second time.

Horschel managed to successfully fend off the challenge of Rory McIlroy winning the Championship at the second play off hole, the American made an excellent putt for an eagle which helped seal an unforgettable victory.

The 37 year old had West Ham legend and former Hammers captain Mark Noble cheering him on, the two are close personal friends. The American carried around his clubs in his well known Claret and Blue golf bag.

Hammers supporter Horschel began the day in joint second position. On the last two holes he made birdies which helped him to finish 20 under par and entered him into a three man play off alongside McIlroy and Thriston Lawrence. Lawrence would end up dropping out after the first play off hole, Horschel made the par 5 18th hole in three shots which saw him match his other win at Wentworth in 2021.

McIlroy was a massive fan favourite to go on and win the tournament, however, as Horschel made his way around the course he was backed and cheered on by fellow Hammers fans in the crowd including his friend Noble.

Speaking about the course at Wentworth and the love shown to him by Hammers supporters to whufc.com, Horschel said: “Wentworth is the course with the loudest West Ham fans ! I hear so much of ‘Come on you Irons !’ and ‘Up the Hammers !’ and get serenaded throughout the golf course with ‘Forever Blowing Bubbles’, so that would probably be the one on a regular basis that is the loudest !”

The American’s second BMW PGA Championship win comes only two months after he finished The Open in joint second position having been cheered on by an army of West Ham loving golf fans.
