West Ham may not have to feel completely distraught over not signing Jhon Duran as there is still hope.

Over the long battle that West Ham fought to try and secure Jhon Duran’s signature, many fans laughed at the bids that Aston Villa rejected. It’s fair to say, it’s Villa who are laughing now.

The forward has already managed to score 5 goals this season, despite many of his appearances coming from the bench, while the Hammers joint-top scorers are Jarrod Bowen, Tomas Soucek, and own goals – all with 2.

With Niclas Fullkrug suffering an injury after a poor start to the season, the Irons will be wishing they spent whatever Villa wanted to bring in the Colombian. Fortunately, not all hope is lost.

According to Ben Jacob’s, West Ham are still keen on signing Duran in the coming windows, but they will face stiff competition. “We need to keep a very close eye, not just on Chelsea, who have had Duran on their list of options, but West Ham as well,” he told GIVEMESPORT. “They moved in another direction and brought in Niclas Fullkrug, but they’re not scoring goals, and they’re not looking sharp or balanced.”

“They’re not looking like a team at the moment that can challenge for a top-half finish or European football. If things continue to go in a negative direction, they might be one of the clubs that have to spend big to bring in a source of goals, either in January or summer 2025.”

Frustratingly, it’s hard to imagine a world where Villa’s price tag for Duran isn’t bumped up even higher. Just how high depends on whether he continues his impressive form, but it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see this saga continue in January.
