Despite a disappointing start to the 24/25 season and some reports even suggesting the Hammers may open talks with former manager David Moyes to return to the club for a third spell, journalist Fabrizio Romano has dismissed these rumours and has confirmed the club will continue to back Julen Lopetegui.
Romano, who is well known amongst football fans for his reporting on transfers, has revealed that the club is still firmly behind Julen Lopetegui. The 1-1 draw to Brentford at the weekend did little to help the Hammers slow start to the season, with one win, two draws and three defeats from their opening six Premier League matches.
West Ham have not picked up a win since the international break and are currently sat 14th in the Premier League after the draw away to Brentford. Lopetegui’s side face newly promoted Ipswich next before the October international break.
Reporting in his Daily Briefing, Romano discussed of how he has not been informed of West Ham looking to bring Moyes back to the club and that although the club want better results, they are continuing to support Lopetegui. “Despite West Ham’s struggles and talk of a possible return for David Moyes as manager, I have zero information on this – zero confirmation, nothing at all.”
The Italian journalist went on to add: “West Ham as a club keep supporting Julen Lopetegui and waiting for better results after many player changes in the summer.”
Former manager David Moyes left West Ham at the end of last season after four and a half years in East London. The 61 year old Scot came under increasing pressure after a number of poor results last season including a 5-0 battering away to Chelsea in May which seemed as though it was the final straw. It was shortly after the Chelsea defeat the club announced Moyes would be leaving.
Only the bottom three conceded more goals in the Premier League than West Ham last season. Despite a busy summer, spending near to £140 million, West Ham have already conceded 10 goals in their first six league games, similar to last season the Hammers look vulnerable defensively at times and as though they can be caught out quite easily
