A former West Ham scout has claimed that the board “regrets” getting rid of David Moyes.

The large majority of fans hoped that the sacking of David Moyes and the subsequent appointment of Julen Lopetegui would end the pointless Moyes in vs Moyes out debate but, if anything, it’s only gotten worse.

Unfortunately, there’s no denying the fact that Lopetegui has had a woeful start to life in East London. Even with the awful run of fixtures, fans seem to have expected at least one more win in their opening 6 league games.

Some fans have already began to change their mind on wanting Moyes gone and, if the claims from former scout Mick Brown are to be believed, the board may be too.

When speaking to Football Insider about the board and their decision to replace the Scotsman, brown didn’t seem all that enthusiastic about the decision. “It’s always a difficult one trying to judge what the owners and directors will do. Unfortunately, their knowledge of the game is not great.”

“They’ve got things right a lot of the time, but they’ve made many, many mistakes as well.”

“David Moyes was brought in to save them from relegation, which he did, and then he took them to seventh in the league and won a European competition.”

“Apparently, though, that wasn’t good enough. I think he was treated appallingly. Having made the decision to sack him, I heard there were times when the board regretted that, but hoped they’d get away with it.”

“There are a lot of people who’ve paid for it – but not the right people. That’s normal.”

Although they may very well be regretting the decision, it’s certainly worth noting that getting rid of Moyes led to Brown also losing his job. Obviously, with how the Irons have performed, it wouldn’t be surprising if they were second guessing themselves a bit, but that’s very different to fully regretting what they did. They’ll still be hoping that Lopetegui can turn things around and go on to create a legacy of his own, just like Moyes.
