Arsenal have been urged to sign an “outstanding No.9” who looked destined to join West Ham just weeks ago.
Football is a sport full of “what ifs”. There are countless moments that were inches away from changing the sport on a monumental scale. Surprisingly, it seems like West Ham’s unwillingness to meet Aston Villa’s demands for Jhon Duran may just be one of them.
Everyone knew the potential which the forward has, he’d shown it multiple times last season, but he’s been a different animal since August. He’s already managed to score 6 goals this campaign, most of which were sensational strikes or crucial goals. His latest stunner was the only goal in Villa’s 1-0 win over Bayern Munich.
Despite not starting many games, interest in the Colombian has already ramped up massively, making any potential interest from West Ham difficult to act upon.
Recently, former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke explained why he believes Duran is the third best striker in the league, urging Arsenal to sign him. “I think Erling Haaland, he’s the No. 1 for sure,” he explained to Prime Casino. “I think Ollie Watkins will get a mention, because he’s consistent. And the third one, I like another boy at Villa – Jhon Duran.”
“He looks a real handful and a bit different from the rest. He’s got that good presence about him. I would take a chance on him, he looks like the real deal. What I look for is people who are hungry, and he’s got that. In terms of the big boys, Arsenal haven’t got an outstanding No. 9.”
The fact that our Irons decided against splashing the cash to sign him is already coming back to bite them. When he does inevitably sign for one of the elite clubs, it will be a painful day for Hammers everywhere.
