West Ham prove pundit wrong with emphatic win over Ipswich.

After their unbelievable Summer transfer window which saw them sign some incredible players, many expected West Ham to be right up there this season.

While it’s still early days, it’s been a bit of a shock to some about how low down the Hammers are in the league. However, when you look a bit deeper, they’ve had some incredibly tough fixtures, yet some pundits still seem to think that their poor start is a sign of their downfall.

Someone like Darren Bent was certain that the Irons would struggle against Ipswich, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth. “I’ll hold my hands up when they brought players in, I thought this West Ham team should be pushing top six,” Bent told talkSPORT.

“When they brought in [Niclas] Fullkrug, a good player and a German international. [Crysencio] Summerville. But they have been so poor and so easy to play against. What is alarming and I think Chelsea exposed it, is how vulnerable they are with that ball in behind. They try and play a high line and they’ve not got the legs to do that.”

“I think Ipswich can go an get something.”

Following their early equaliser, Ipswich had next to no real chances during West Ham’s 4-1 win. On another day, that could have easily been more like 7-1. The hosts were brutal, not giving Ipswich a sniff at goal. It was the first time we really saw Lopetegui’s style of play at it’s best, and it is a real positive sign of things to come.

When looking at just form, it’s easy to say that things are getting worrying, but it’s so important to look at the bigger picture. Frustratingly, our Irons return from the international break to two tough fixtures, not giving them much room to build momentum from this massive win. Nonetheless, it has proven a point that this is a team that has the ability to tear others apart, and hopefully this is just the beginning.
