Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna shows bitterness after West Ham smashed his side 4-1.
In the build up to the match between West Ham and Ipswich Town at the London Stadium, Kieran McKenna was nothing but classy. He admitted that his side were in for a tough match and he seemed to have a lot of respect for the hosts.
Unfortunately, he clearly let his emotions get the better of him after the 4-1 thrashing. Instead of praising the Irons and talking about what his side could have done better (and there’s a lot), he decided to make some bold accusations about the East London club’s style of play. “I think we conceded poor goals at poor times. It’s the first team in the league that we’ve faced with that style, really. They played a lot of direct balls to Antonio and Soucek. We didn’t deal with those well enough, and we made some poor mistakes for the goals that made the game difficult.”
To put it frankly, it’s rather hard to understand what he’s on about. All four of the Hammers’ goals were exceptionally well worked. It’s the first game we really go to see Lopetegui’s style of play in full swing, that includes quick, on the floor passing. Obviously, there’s always going to be some long balls to Antonio and Soucek – you wouldn’t be using them correctly if there wasn’t.
McKenna frankly got it wrong tactically against our Irons. They were out played, out classed, and they looked out of their depth. If he wants to resort to cheap digs like that then he’s more than welcome to, but it doesn’t help his case when he’s clearly just wrong.
