West Ham have denied rumours that Niclas Fullkrug requires surgery.
For years now, West Ham have been on the hunt for a striker who can provide competition and, ideally, replace Michail Antonio. Unfortunately, their efforts have been unsuccessful. Gianluca Scamacca, Danny Ings, Sebastian Haller all, on paper, should have scored a lot more goals for the club than they did.
These issues do not seem to be disappearing as Niclas Fullkrug’s start to life in claret and blue has been anything but inspiring. He’s been out injured since the last international break, with his return being set back multiple times.
However, reports have recently emerged saying that his recovery time could be extended drastically due to the need for surgery. Thankfully, Sean Whetstone’s sources have squashed these rumours.
“Club sources are in the dark over claims that Niclas Fullkrug needs an operation,” he posted on X. “The club source insisted they had heard nothing about any West Ham player requiring an operation but admitted anything was possible.”
“The last medical update the club source was told is Fullkrug is expected to be on or near the bench for the away trip against Spurs.”
What this does seem to suggest is that Julen Lopetegui is in no rush to put him back in the starting XI. Many questioned whether or not he’d be the right man for the Spaniard’s system and when his next start comes could be very telling to the answer of this.
