An on-loan West Ham youth player has been praised by his manager.
West Ham are fortunate to have one of the best crops of youth players in the whole of England. While not many of them have had a proper chance in the club’s first team, it’s the first season where the majority of their biggest prospects are out on loan to get professional experience.
Although he impressed at Wycombe last season, League 1 is a completely different ball game to the Championship, but Freddie Potts has made the step up look easy. What makes this even more impressive is that he’s been great in a struggling Portsmouth side who look set to be in a relegation scrap all season.
Despite the awful start to their campaign, manager John Mousinho has singled out the midfielder as one of the stand out players so far. “Freddie has been excellent. He’s very composed on the ball, positionally very good and also strong in the tackle and with his challenges to emerge with a lot of credit as a holding midfielder. His overall game has been very, very solid.”
At just 21-years-old, Potts is undoubtedly one of the brightest talents in the whole of the Hammers’ academy. If he gets a full season of Championship football under his belt, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him in and around the first team next season.
