West Ham women’s new signing Li Mengwen has spoken of her time in east London since joining this summer.
Speaking to the Clubs official website, summer signing Li Mengwen, discussed her time at the club so far and how she has settled in, as well as how she is hopeful that West Ham Women will be able to kick on this season.
The Chinese international has featured in all of the women’s teams games so far and is continuing to adapt to life in East London after her summer loan move to the club.
“It’s been a busy start to life at West Ham” said Mengwen. The defender went on to add: “I’ve been getting used to things on and off the pitch, and I feel like I’m settling now into how we want to play and my life here at West Ham.”
Discussing her performances in a West Ham shirt so far this season, Mengwen said: “I know that I need to improve on my performances that I’ve shown so far. I need to be faster mentally, but that will come with time.”
Mengwen joined West Ham on transfer deadline day on a loan deal from Brighton. The defender became Rehanne Skinner’s ninth signing of the transfer window in what was a busy summer for the club.
Speaking about the Hammers squad, Mengwen described how a number of her Hammers teammates have helped her settle quickly and made transitioning to a new club a smooth process. “Everyone here has been really welcoming. I’ve been living with Amber, Jess and Shelina for the past couple of weeks and they’ve really helped me with a lot. Riko has been so great with me too, and that’s all really helped me to settle.
“For myself personally, I want to show a little bit more offensively from my position. The dream would be to get an assist and help the team score.”
