England regular and long-term West Ham target Harry Maguire could be a target for West Ham this winter as he could be available for just £10m, according to reports from the Star, via the Evening Standard.

West Ham United came close to signing Harry Maguire last summer under David Moyes, it was reported by multiple outlets that the Hammers had a £30m bid accepted by Manchester United back in August 2023. However, he opted to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford. He did get back into the side and played very well at times, however, his contract now has just six months left and it doesn’t look likely he will sign a new one.

This could mean the Red Devils will want to move him on in the January transfer window, and according to the Star, that fee could be just £10m. A third less than West Ham were willing to pay for the defender not even 18 months ago.

Harry Maguire signed for Manchester United for a huge £80m from Leicester City back in 2019, he has made 215 appearances for United so far scoring 12 goals. The England cult hero has also earned 64 international caps for England, scoring seven goals which makes him the highest scoring defender in England history.

While Maguire doesn’t really seem like the type of defender Julen Lopetegui is looking for at West Ham, it could be a move that is too difficult for the club to turn down if it can be done at the reported price. However, there will be a lot of interest from other Premier League clubs and clubs all over Europe as the 31-year-old’s talent is undeniable despite years of criticism.

Maguire is comfortable playing both centre-back positions in a back four and is also proven in a back five for England. The Hammers are quite short in central defence with just three senior player in the squad after Kurt Zouma departed on loan. The club reportedly looked at brining in a free agent as cover, however the two options in John Egan and Joel Matip were not deemed good enough. If Maguire can be signed for £10m in January it would fill a reasonably big whole in the West Ham squad.
