Stuart Pearce believes West Ham spent their money “wisely” this Summer.

Heading into the transfer window, it was always important that the club brought in a fair few players. While the skeleton of the squad Julen Lopetegui was inheriting was solid, he clearly needed a lot to flesh it out.

Thankfully, Tim Steidten and his team was able to provide him with 9 new signings, spending close to £150 million on new players. While the jury is still out on a couple of them, most of them have proven to be useful assets, a verdict that West Ham fan favourite Stuart Pearce agrees with.

“I just think they’ve added to what David [Moyes] did by giving the new manager £150 million to spend on players,” he told talkSPORT. “I think they’ve spent it quite wisely, I think at the start of the season their aspirations would have been European Football or in and around some of those European places.”

“They’re used to that under David, you know, they’ve been in and around finishing ninth, sixth, seventh in the league so that should be their aspiration. I just think it’s took a little while to get going.”

It’s still very early days in Lopetegui’s reign but, from a quality perspective, he has no excuse not to succeed. This is without a doubt one of the best squads the Irons have ever had, they just need to start building some momentum now.
