Max Kilman made no excuses over West Ham’s 4-1 defeat to Tottenham.
In a game that means so much to the fans, seeing a second-half performance as uninspiring as the one that West Ham displayed against Tottenham feels like a real kick in the teeth.
While Spurs dominated possession in the first 45, West Ham had the better chances and the game was there for the taking at 1-1. Unfortunately, when the hosts stepped up their game, the Irons switched off.
It’s the sort of performance that fans wanted to avoid at all costs, and the manner of the defeat has already caused some to question whether Julen Lopetegui is the right man for the job.
Obviously, the players will be furious with themselves and defender Max Kilman held no punches in his post-match interview. “It wasn’t good enough,” Kilman confessed. “There was a spell in the second half when we let the game slip.”
“It was a bad spell for us. We lost concentration as a team at important moments and let them get ahead of us. Obviously it’s not good enough for the level we are and the quality we have. We need to be doing much better. We need to be much better than that and make sure we’re ready for the next one.”
“We’ve got ourselves to blame,” he continued. “The fans come to support us every week and we need to show them better than that.”
“For sure we need to get our heads down and put in a good performance next week. We need to compete with the best teams in the league and we have the quality to do that. We need to keep going and hopefully things will change.”
An opportunity to build momentum has been wasted, and it seems like the Ipswich result was perhaps down to the quality of their side rather than how well our Irons played.
