West Ham’s U18 side beat Tottenham 4-2 at the weekend, securing their first league win so far this season.

Visitors Tottenham started the match positively, creating chances and putting the Hammers defence under pressure. They would go on to take the lead 11 minutes in. West Ham were caught off guard after Luca Williams-Barnett’s long range strike from the half way line went over the keeper and into the back of the net to put Tottenham ahead.

West Ham responded quickly. Four minutes later, Adiele’s cross into the box was headed in by Golambeckis, scoring his fourth of the campaign to equalise for the young Hammers.

The Hammers caused Tottenham’s back line real problems as their counter attacks proved to be incredibly dangerous. 30 minutes in, Hammers Ham forward Andre Dike who had looked a threat for most of the game, leapt highest to meet another cross from Adiele and headed home to make it 2-1 to West Ham.

In the 38th minute, the Hammers ruthlessness in front of goal continued as they found a third and went 3-1 up thanks to a wonderful left footed strike from Elisha Sowunmi. The goals continued flowing for the young Hammers as they scored their fourth just a couple minutes later. Dike scored his second goal of the game, sealing a top class first half performance from the young forward.

4-1 in front, and with a comfortable advantage, West Ham continued to dominate in the second half. The visitors made substitutions to try and help get them back into the game, however West Ham’s back line remained disciplined and resolute.

Tottenham did pull a goal back with 20 minutes left to play to make it 4-2. Roman Egan-Riley played an excellent ball over the top which found Williams-Barnett who slotted home his second goal of the game.

West Ham’s job was made more challenging when with a little under 15 minutes to play Adiele was shown a second yellow meaning the Hammers had to finish the game with ten men. West Ham managed to hold on and secured their first league victory of the season, meaning they climb up to 9th in the Premier League South table.
