West Ham legend shocked over horrific transfer oversight.

Unfortunately, West Ham’s striker curse is starting to feel more and more real every single year. Every single time they’ve signed a forward, no matter how prolific they were before or afterwards, they are just not able to consistently find the back of the net when wearing claret and blue.

Although there’s not been much of an opportunity to judge him, the signing of Niclas Fullkrug looks destined to go down a similar path. Despite being Germany’s No.9, he wasn’t many fans first choice signing.

Since joining he’s spent the majority of his time out injured and there is currently no return date set for him following weeks of setbacks.

While he’s not necessarily opposed to the signing of Fullkrug, West Ham legend Tony Cortes is baffled by the decision not to sign a younger striker. “You know the centre-forward position is just, it’s just a joke that they haven’t bought a centre-forward who could score goals and lead the line,” he ranted on talkSPORT.

“If you’re Bowen, Kudus, Paqueta, Summerville, they’ve got good players, but no one is leading the line.”

“Antonio has been brilliant. Don’t get me wrong, he signed as a right-back, top goalscorer, he’s done fantastic, but he’s 34 now. Fullkrug, 31. They need a young, dynamic striker to lead the line.”

With their number one choice, Jhon Duran, signing a contract extension, the Hammers will have to look at other options to solve their woes. You’d hope they’d take Cottee’s advice, but you would have hoped it wouldn’t have taken Fullkrug flopping to realise he’s not the sort of striker the club needs.
