Julen Lopetegui is not in any imminent danger of being sacked by West Ham as things stand despite a poor start to the season, according to a report from The Guardian.

The Hammers currently sit 15th in the table after eight matches, and they were dealt with one of the biggest blows possible on Saturday as they were defeated 4-1 away at Tottenham Hotspur. However, the board are not looking to make a managerial change yet and are keen to give Lopetegui time after appointing him as David Moyes’s successor last summer.

Since David Sullivan has been at the club, West Ham have been far from rash when it comes to sacking managers. The Hammers had just six managers before Lopetegui  since arriving at he club in 2010, which shows they love to stick with their appointments as long as they can. There is a recognition that the Spaniard is attempting to implement a new style of play while he tries to settle in ten new summer signings.

However, despite being in no rush to make a decision there is deep concern about early results. There could be huge pressure on Saturday’s match against Manchester United at the London Stadium, however even if we suffer defeat, the board are unlikely to make a change. Lopetegui’s position is set to be reviewed if there is no real improvement before Christmas.

Lopetegui will be without Mohammed Kudus for at least the next three games after he saw red for violent conduct against Tottenham. The Ghanaian could still receive a longer ban, with six games being spoken about due to the seriousness of his actions. And realistically, Kudus can have no complaints about a potential extended ban as there were at least three red card incidents during his rampage.

Kudus will be a huge miss for Lopetegui as he has really started to find some form out on that left-wing, despite the player clearly being frustrated about playing out of position. However, it could be a brilliant chance for new signing Crysencio Summerville to step up and show West Ham fans exactly what they all know he is capable of.
