Reports suggest that Mohammed Kudus could face an extended ban for his Spurs rampage.

Mohammed Kudus’ collapse of composure against Tottenham perfectly capitulates how the team as a whole fell apart. In the first-half, he was causing the opposition all sorts of problems, scoring the opener. In the second-half, he lost his head and this caused a total meltdown.

Following an altercation which started with Van De Ven, he put three of Spurs’ players on the floor with him likely to have done more damage if he wasn’t physically restrained. While his reaction was extremely passionate, it’s not certain whether his anger was purely down to being thrashed or whether there was a wider frustration growing in him.

Understandably, Kudus received a straight red card after a VAR review, but various reports claim that his suspension could be extended, with Mike Dean stating that he would not be surprised to see the FA retroactively increase the ban to 6+ games.

If this does happen, the Ghanaian will not play in claret and blue until the 9th December.

Losing a key player like Kudus for any amount of time is awful, but this could be absolutely disastrous. Given the pressure is already starting to grow, some have speculated it could even end up costing Julen Lopetegui his job in the long run.

Realistically, if the ban is extended, there can not be much complaining. Kudus committed at least 3 red card offences during the incident, and it’s absolutely baffling that the referee initially only gave him a yellow. While you can love the passion, it’s gone on to have a detrimental impact on the club as a whole – so was it really worth it?
