Julen Lopetegui is running out of road as the line of excuses behind our poor start to the season wear thin.
West Ham fell to another bad defeat at the weekend, this time a 4-1 loss to Spurs, which has in turn piled the pressure on the Head Coach Lopetegui.
Although it is 8 games into the Premier League season so far, the lack of progress being witnessed is now becoming a concern, with Gonzo of Claret & Hugh highlighting the evidence since our opening day defeat to Aston Villa.
“It’s the sort of pressure that nobody expected the Spaniard to face so early in his West Ham reign,” said the host of Hammers Chat Forum. “But Lopetegui is no longer the new kid on the block as he enters his fifth month in charge at The London Stadium, and excuses are beginning to run out.
“There was a brief uplift following the Premier League win against Ipswich Town, but the team seems to be no further along than they were in the opening day defeat to Aston Villa.”
Gonzo also feels that the excuses now being used by the Head Coach and players are simply no longer valid, as the pressure continues to mount on the club to turn this situation around, and fast.
“Max Kilman’s observation that West Ham were getting better but ‘lost concentration’ just won’t cut it as an excuse anymore,” added Gonzo. “The Hammers should be too far into the Lopetegui project for such things to be an issue, particularly given that the Irons’ gaffer had a whole two weeks on the training ground to drill the Hammers’ defence.
“Time is running out for Lopetegui. Not only are West Ham fans getting nervous, but the mainstream media is getting on his back too, which means trouble.”
