“Internal questions have been asked” over Tim Steidten’s West Ham recruitment.
West Ham fans are becoming increasingly frustrated with each passing game. The performances have been lacklustre, an overall style of play seems to be missing, and the results have been abysmal.
While they’ve won two games this season, they’ve both been against two of the worst teams in the entire league.
Understandably, questions are being asked of Julen Lopetegui. He doesn’t seem to have been able to really get things going as of yet, but questions are being asked just as much over the recruitment.
Although they signed some quality players like Kilman, Todibo, and Wan-Bissaka, some of the decisions Tim Steidten made are absolutely baffling.
As a result, the board are questioning whether the massive amount of money they trusted the recruitment team with could have been spent better, The Guardian reports. Above all else, the decision to sign Niclas Fullkrug has come under fire.
The striker mate has a great record in front of goal, but he’s clearly not the sort of striker that would suit the Hammers. Above all else though, his injury record is awful and is only going to get worse considering he’s nearly 32-years-old. The Irons are notorious for having bad luck with injuries, so why would Steidten choose to sign him instead of a younger, promising forward?
Ultimately, when the team is underperforming as much as it is, questions have to be asked of absolutely everyone. Steidten has gotten a lot right since joining (the signing of Jean-Clair Todibo likely doesn’t happen without him many have suggested) but it does seem like he’s got a bit too much wrong. On top of this, his constant desire to be in the spotlight, and likely leaking of stories to the news, mean he has a lot to prove.
