Niclas Fullkrug has made a very honest admission about his start to life at West Ham.
Many strikers have tried and failed to break West Ham’s No.9 curse. After spending big money on Scamacca, Haller, and Ings, you would have hoped one of them would have found form, but none of them did.
Unfortunately, this trend seems to be continuing with the signing of Niclas Fullkrug. The German has spent the majority of the season out injured, and his return date is still unknown. When he did play, he looked lacklustre at best.
However, Fullkrug is well aware that it’s been a “bad start” to life in claret and blue, but he believes there are genuine reasons behind it.
“To be honest, I’ve had a really bad start,” the forward admitted. “I moved after a very short Summer, and an intensive last season. I played 57 games [for club and country]. Then I had a rocket start as I moved here, a week before the start of the Premier League.”
“I just hope I’ll get fit soon and finally show what I’m capable of.”
While it’s genuinely brilliant to hear a player be so honest and so determined to put things right, you really do have to question what Tim Steidten and his recruitment team were thinking when they signed a 31-year-old, injury prone striker, especially for the amount of money they spent. Hopefully he can prove us all wrong, but it’s not going to be possible until he’s actually able to play.
