West Ham star Lucas Paqueta is set to face his first hearing surrounding the ongoing betting allegations.
The Brazil international will be part of a hearing via video link on 30th October, which is being undertaken by the Brazilian authorities, following their decision to look into the matter also.
It was reported that Paqueta’s team attempted to have the hearing delayed, due to fears of its potential impact on the hearing set for March 2025 with the Football Association, however this was rejected by the Brazilian FA.
Speaking on the Football Insider Podcast, former Everton chief Keith Wyness has shared his thoughts on the situation, saying that any ban would be met with an appeal, which could well take a couple of years to be heard.
“I’m surprised that the FA are looking at something that strong, but we’re yet to see the evidence that comes out,” said Wyness.
“We’ve seen Tonali come back with everything cleared up. It just depends how serious this all was and whether there was any intention to deceive.
“I’m sure the hearing will dig into all of this. Any ban would cover domestic and international football. It would be appealed and would end up in court, but that would take a couple of years.”
