West Ham’s U21s urgently need a performance tonight as they travel to EV Charger Points Stadium to take on Cheltenham Town in their final Bristol Street Motors Trophy group stage match.
Cheltenham Town v West Ham United U21s | EFL Trophy Southern Group H, EV Charger Points Stadium, Tuesday 29 October 2024 @ 7 pm
Not only do the Young Hammers need to beat Cheltenham by two goals or more this evening, but they will also need Reading to win their remaining two group games to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.
Previous encounters:
The young hammers have had recent success against the “Robins” in recent times, winning two
out of the last three encounters in the EFL trophy.
Last time out against Cheltenham, the young Hammers won 4-0 away from home, with goals from Divin Mubama, Ollie Scarles, Callum Marshall, and George Earthy.
Thoughts from Mark Robson:
U21s head coach Mark Robson believes his team will be up for the match, even with the experienced opposition.
“For me, these are the best games because you’re playing against seasoned professionals. It gives the boys invaluable experience to play in a stadium environment, with the added exposure of a live television broadcasted game in front of fans.”
With a win not being enough, Robson’s team must be clinical in front of goal, and look to get on the front foot from the get-go.
“We’re approaching the game positively because, with a win and some goals, there’s still a chance to progress if other results go our way.”
Live Stream:
Tonight’s match against Cheltenham Town will be live on Sky Sports+, and fans can also keep up with the action from the game on the Club’s app and website, as a live blog will be available. For the fans unable to catch either, highlights will become available tomorrow.
Current standings:
Cheltenham is currently 16th in League Two, after being relegated from League One last year.
West Ham U21s will be looking to continue their solid start to the Premier League Development League. Trailing only league front runners Manchester City by three points.
