West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville has discussed why he celebrated his goal against Manchester United with Hammers teammate Mohammed Kudus at the weekend.

Summerville, who joined West Ham in the summer transfer window from Championship side Leeds, opened the scoring for the Hammers in the 74th minute after coming on as a second half substitute. United would equalise seven minutes later before West Ham were awarded a controversial penalty in second half stoppage time. Captain Jarrod Bowen stepped up and fired the resulting spot kick into the bottom corner past United keeper Andre Onana.

The Hammers held on, winning the game 2-1 and securing an important and much needed three points. Summerville was one of a number of substitutes brought on at half time by manager Julen Lopetegui after the Hammers disappointing display in the first half.

The Dutch winger has found minutes hard to come by so far this season and has had to wait patiently for opportunities. The 22 year old certainly repaid his manager’s faith. In the right place at the right time, Summerville prodded home his finish after the ball rolled into his path following a mis hit shot by Danny Ings, putting West Ham ahead and scoring his first goal for the club.

After netting his first West Ham goal, Summerville ran to the bench and celebrated with the suspended Mohammed Kudus. Speaking to the BBC after the game, Summerville discussed the emotions after scoring his first of the season as well as how he predicted scoring whilst chatting with Kudus before coming on.

“I saw Danny (Ings) was going to hit the ball and just anticipated and thought yes I’m going to reach this ball.” said the 22 year old. Summerville went on to add: “A lot of emotions because every forward player wants to play. I try to help the team in any way I can. I said to (Mohammed) Kudus if I go on I’m going to score so that’s why I went to him.”
