West Ham star got what they wanted, but will it come back to bite the club?

Whether it’s a coincidence or not, Lucas Paqueta’s form has been awful since his involvement in an alleged betting scandal came to light. The likelihood is that this situation has had a massive impact on his mental health and, therefore, his overall game.

Aside from his FA investigation, he is now subject to a hearing with the Sports Betting CPI in Brazil, alongside his uncle, Bruno Tolentino.

Initially, the hearing was scheduled for Wednesday 30th October in person, but he was successfully able to appeal against this to move it to an online video call. However, the CPI was refusing to delay the date despite Paqueta’s representatives claiming that it could interfere with the midfielder’s FA case.

Fortunately, they have changed their mind and allowed it to take place on 3rd December. This should hopefully allow enough time for his legal team to submit their defence to the FA.

Frustratingly, this could have a huge impact on the Irons though as they face Leicester City on that same day. While he has been poor as of late, he still has the ability to win games single-handedly, so not having him available would be a massive loss.
