West Ham have been hit by a significant financial blow which could have a huge impact on the upcoming transfer windows.

Over the past few years, West Ham’s spending has increased significantly. In the last window alone, they spent well over £100 million.

Despite this, there is still plenty of room for improvement in their squad, for example the strikers, which has left fans hoping that they’d get further investment into the squad this coming January transfer window.

Unfortunately, the Hammers have been hit by an unexpected increase in expenditure. The UK government’s budget has been controversial, but it has an objectively negative impact on football clubs.

According to Claret and Hugh, West Ham’s wage bill sits close to £150 million per-annum. As a result of employer’s contribution to national insurance rising from 13.8% to 15%, this wage bill will be increased by a massive £1.8 million.

What this likely means is that the wage budget really can’t increase much further, meaning they’ll have to offload before they sign any additions. Obviously PSR is a massive concern to clubs now, and our Irons will want to avoid a breach of regulations at all costs.
