West Ham are said to be back in the race for a South American star.

Tim Steidten’s many trips to Brazil may have only resulted in the signing of Luis Guilherme, but that doesn’t mean other targets weren’t spotted.

In the build up to, and indeed during, the Summer, the club were linked with a move for a whole host of South Americans. Many of these targets were young wonder-kids with bags of potential.

However, one of the club’s reported targets was actually 27-year-old midfielder Jhon Arias. The Colombian has been on fire for Fluminese for the last three seasons and, despite his age, the club clearly believed he has what it takes to play in the Premier League.

Interestingly, RTI Esporte reports that the deal is still on and it’s a matter of when rather than if. His side are only set to demand £11 million for his services  – virtually nothing to a club or West Ham’s size.

Whether or not he’d be able to hit form straight away remains to be seen, but it’s a big ask of someone of his age who’s never played in Europe. The potential upsides though may that small risk worth it.
