David Moyes has revealed his awful treatment from the West Ham board that will irritate even the biggest Moyes-outers.
Whether or not you believe it was the right time for him to go, there’s no denying that David Moyes deserves to go down in the history books as one of West Ham’s greatest ever managers. He delivered fans so many memorable moments, giving many the best night of their lives with that historic Conference League win in Prague.
Unfortunately, Moyes has revealed that he was treated with very little respect by the club with the disgusting way they handled his, at the time, due-to-expire contract. “We beat Arsenal on December the 28th I think it was,” he told the Stick to Football podcast. “We beat them at the Emirates and that day they offered me a new contract. Then we went on a three game run where we lost three games in a row.”
“I hadn’t signed the contract because, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure whether I should stay. The contract wasn’t a great contract.”
“The biggest part of it was he withdrew the contract, David Sullivan. He said: ‘look let’s wait and we’ll make a decision at the end of the season’.”
“You can see where that was just becoming a bit more difficult [to stay]. But they did offer the contract and I wasn’t overly happy with it and wasn’t quite ready to do it at the time anyway.”
“So it worked out fine,” he concluded, “and I’ve got no animosity with them at all, and no wonder – we had a great time together!”
While it’s great to hear that Moyes holds no ill will, it’s also absolutely disgusting to hear how he was treated by Sullivan. There’s no world where that should be happening and you really do have to feel for the Scotsman.
