West Ham’s players must take responsibility for their poor start instead of letting the blame be pinned on Julen Lopetegui.

An awful start to the Premier League season means that Julen Lopetegui is already under massive pressure at West Ham.

Unfortunately, following on from David Moyes was always going to be difficult, but the Spaniard has really struggled to implement any real consistent style of play as well as failing to get the best out of his players.

However, journalist Kathryn Batte believes that the men on the pitch must take an equal amount of responsibility for their form. “Some of the squad seem to be playing within themselves. Lucas Paqueta is one,” she wrote.

“Jarrod Bowen, who was left out of a second consecutive England squad last week, has been the club’s best attacking player this season. But even he seemed out of sorts on Saturday, perhaps dragged down by the performances of those around him.”

“Jean-Clair Todibo, meanwhile, is yet to show why West Ham fought off competition from several top clubs to sign him in the summer.”

While these are just a few examples, almost every player needs to step up. If they don’t, West Ham could be in for a horrid season.
