West Ham Women’s manager Rehanne Skinner was full of praise for the combined effort of the supporters and her team as the Hammers picked up their first WSL win of the season.
Viv Asseyi’s goal in first half added time helped the Hammers to seal their 1-0 win at home against Leicester. It was a dominant performance from Rehanne Skinner’s side, they created many chances and did well defensively to limit opponents Leicester’s opportunities in front of goal.
A first win of the season for the Hammers was naturally going to spark joyous celebrations after the full time whistle. Aside from the result, Hammers boss Skinner was delighted with how dominant the performance was from her players.
Discussing her sides performance and their first league win of the season with the Club’s official website, Skinner said: “I’m delighted, for the players, for the staff, for everyone whose worked really hard. We definitely could have had more goals from the chances we created and I think we made life really, really difficult for them.”
Skinner went on to add: “I think that’s helped by the fans, who were fantastic again today and they got right behind the team. A real big thank you to the fans but we’re delighted with the clean sheet, and with Viv (Asseyi) getting her first league goal of the season.”
Reflecting on French forward Viv Asseyi’s first league goal of the campaign, Skinner said: “Vivi (Asseyi) created that chance from being a little bit higher, Pavi was really positive on the ball, and the timing of the run and the release of the pass was superb to eliminate their back line. I think her first touch was outstanding to draw the goalkeeper in with real composure around the box. It’s a fantastic goal and a lot of people contributed to those chances being created.”
Hammers boss Skinner recognised the importance of her side’s first league win and is confident it can help kick start their league campaign: “This is an important victory. We felt we should have got a point out of last week as well, so it’s going to kick start things for us moving forward, I’m sure.”
