West Ham United could sack Julen Lopetegui as soon as this week, according to a report from Football Insider.
Hammers chiefs are reportedly “unhappy” with the start Julen Lopetegui has made at the club, winning just four matches out of a possible fourteen in all competitions. There is even a possibility he could be fired during the ongoing International break.
Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed he’s been told by “close sources at West Ham” that the Spaniard’s job is under immediate threat.
The 0-0 draw with Sean Dyche’s Everton caused boos to ring around the London Stadium on the full time whistle. and according to many West Ham fans, it was enough for Lopetegui to get the sack.
It would be the perfect time to replace the manager with no match until the trip to Newcastle in eleven days time, sixteen days after the previous match against Everton on Saturday.
However, despite this report and David Sullivan’s clear unhappiness after spending so much money in the summer, Lopetegui is expected to last the International break and he will likely be in the dugout at St James Park next Monday.
The most is likely scenario is that Lopetegui will be given until Christmas to turn things around at the London Stadium but the sensational possibility of the sack just three months into his reign isn’t impossible.
