Behind the scenes tension between Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten may lead to a change at the helm.
West Ham have been performing far below the levels most expected of them this season. Their squad was already solid, but they conducted some brilliant business on paper. Unfortunately, this hasn’t translated to success.
So far this season, West Ham have only had three Premier League wins, and only one of them was well deserved.
This has resulted in massive pressure mounting on Julen Lopetegui as he is deemed to be underperforming. However, the Spaniard would argue that many of the issues are down to players not settling in, leading to a bit of friction between himself and Tim Steidten, according to the club’s former scout Mick Brown.
“Several of their signings haven’t turned up so far, and then that comes back and the manager is the one who has to deal with it,” he told GIVEMESPORT.
“So it’s a bit tense between them, and understandably so from the manager’s point of view.”
“I see that to be the major problem at West Ham. It was part of why they let Moyes go, and it’ll probably be what gets Lopetegui sacked too because Steidten has been put in a more powerful position than the managers.”
Realistically, both are responsible for what’s happening. Lopetegui tactics have been awful, but Steidten should have recruited players for the manager’s system. At the end of it all though, there’s only one man who’s likely to be sacked if things don’t turn around and that’s Lopetegui.
