West Ham eye Lucas Paqueta replacement to fit within new transfer strategy.

As our own ExWHUEmployee revealed, greater emphasis will be placed on signing players from the Championship, as well as Premier League club’s youth academy’s.

While these are not going to be the only players they sign going forward, it is an area they’ve had success with in the past.

With Lucas Paqueta facing a lifetime ban from football if he’s found guilty of breaching betting regulations, The Sun reports that the Hammers could look to replace him with Manchester City youngster James McAtee.

The 22-year-old enjoyed two solid seasons while on loan to Sheffield United, contributing to six goals in the Premier League during the last campaign.

West Ham are said to be prepared to pay up to £20 million, but it’s hard to imagine they’d spend that in January considering the large amount of cash they gave Tim Steidten to work with in the Summer.

Although Paqueta has been in poor form, it is a bit of a risky move. However, if he can do that well in a Sheffield United side that got easily relegated, it would be interesting to see what he can do in a side with higher expectations.
