West Ham Women’s team midfielder Kirstie Mewis has publicly announced the news that she is expecting her first child with her fiancee Sam Kerr.

Mewis and her fiancee Chelsea striker Sam Kerr went public with the news on their Instagram pages on Monday. The child is due in 2025 and Hammers midfielder Mewis is carrying the baby.

United States international Mewis has won more than 50 caps for her country. The 33 year old has played at club level in Australia, the USA, Japan and Germany. Mewis signed for West Ham in December 2023.

Her fiancee Sam Kerr is one of the biggest names in the WSL. Australia’s record goalscorer, Kerr has won countless trophies since signing for Chelsea. With a frighteningly good goal scoring record at both club and international level, the Chelsea striker is one of Australia’s biggest sporting stars.

It’s believed the couple first met in 2019, they have been together since 2021 and got engaged last year. Whilst the announcement of Mewis’ pregnancy and the couple having their first child together has been met with much warmth and many kind comments, it has sadly been the subject of a number of hateful and offensive comments.

Chelsea’s LGBTQ+ supporters group, Chelsea Pride, condemned the hateful comments via a statement posted on social media site X writing: “It’s heartbreaking and infuriating to see social media flooded with hateful comments when we should be celebrating love, pride, and unity.”

Chelsea Pride’s statement regarding the negative and offensive responses emphasises their commitment to fostering and maintaining a culture of respect and an inclusive environment within the sport.

Hammers fans will certainly be wishing Mewis all the best through her pregnancy and as she embarks into the journey of motherhood alongside her wife to be, Chelsea striker Kerr.
