West Ham “can handle” the financial cost of sacking Julen Lopetegui, but it’s whether or not they have the nerve to admit their mistake.
Fans’ concerns over the appointment of Julen Lopetegui have been proven to be well founded. Not only is there not a set style of play, but the once together squad seems to be fractured with chemistry really lacking.
Unfortunately, it seems like West Ham made the wrong decision in appointing him, but some are concerned that the club can’t afford to sack him due to their big spending in the Summer.
Thankfully, financial expert Stefan Borson has confirmed this is not the case. “West Ham can afford to make this change,”
he told Football Insider.
“From a financial perspective, they have a lot more flexibility than almost anybody else. The Rice sale gave them a lot of flexibility with PSR, which is why they spent so heavily in the summer. They’ve got plenty left over, even on the three-year test.”
“West Ham are well run, they control their costs almost better than anyone else around. Compared with the other London clubs, they are doing very well – although they have been loss-making.”
“They can handle the cost of making a change with Lopetegui, so that won’t be the key driver. It will be more just admitting they have made a mistake.”
For now, the board are sticking with the Spaniard, but it’s good to know that there isn’t anything to be concerned about when it comes to the finances of sacking him.
