West Ham handed a major boost in signing sought after goalkeeper.
Looking at the business West Ham did in the Summer, there’s a few areas they desperately need to improve upon still. The striker situation is still unresolved, the midfield has no legs and no natural ball carrier that can help transition from defence to attack, and an overall lack of depth still remains in certain positions.
However, one spot no one really thought the Hammers would need to improve upon is the goalkeepers. Areola saved West Ham on a number of occasions last season, with him single handedly winning points for his side but has been abysmal as of late. While Fabianski remains a solid keeper on paper despite his age, he simply can’t play at the top for much longer and is already starting to show signs of this.
As a result, the club are keen to recruit a new shot-stopper in the coming windows, with Hammers News reporting that they may look to sign Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher.
The Irishman’s incredible goalkeeping abilities tend to go under the radar due to being backup to one of the best keepers in the world. He’s shown on countless occasions that he’s more than good enough to be a Premier League side’s first choice.
West Ham’s chances of securing his signature seemed relatively low though, as Chelsea were believed to be sniffing around him. Thankfully though, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that this isn’t the case.
This is obviously great news to our Irons who desperately need to sign a starting goalkeeper by next Summer at the very latest. Hopefully no one else comes in before we can.
