Newcastle United and England striker Callum Wilson will return from injury to face West Ham United tomorrow night.

The 32-year-old hasn’t played for Newcastle so far in 24/25 after suffering back and hamstring injuries, however, according to Wilson himself, he will be returning to face his favourite opponents this weekend.

There was concern amongst Geordies when the striker wasn’t spotted in training on Thursday. However, in his pre-match press conference on Friday, manager Eddie Howe confirmed he would be training. He said: “He’s doing well. We anticipate he’s going to train with the group today. Whether he’s quite there for West Ham, let’s see. But he has to get through the next few days in training first.”

With the match being on Monday, Wilson has had a couple more days of training than he usually would to prove his fitness and return to the squad on Monday. However, there is almost zero chance of him starting the match, even if he was 100% fit.

Alexander Isak has been in fine form of late and will start the match as the number nine, meaning if involved, Wilson will have to make an impact off of the bench.

While it sounds like Wilson could be available on Monday night, Howe has been keen to stress that the club will continue to take a cautious approach.

“I think that the most important thing is that Callum does come back and when he does come back, he’s in a good place to contribute and to make a difference,” he said, as reported by the Chronicle.

“We know his importance but he’s obviously at a delicate stage of his return because you’ve got to manage the last parts correctly. We need to learn from previous issues that we’ve had and try and keep.”

If he does make it back, it will be a huge boost for Newcastle’s already big chances of winning the match. Wilson has been a thorn in the side of West Ham United. The Coventry-born striker has 12 goals in 14 matches in his career against the Hammers. He scored a hattrick at Upton Park in his first-ever match against us when he played for Bournemouth in 2015.

Since joining Newcastle, Wilson has scored five goals in six matches against West Ham. Hammers fans will be hoping he doesn’t add to his tally on Monday night.
