West Ham United are unlikely to make a move for Jose Mourinho if Julen Lopetegui is sacked, according to Football Insider sources.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, FI correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Portuguese manager has switched on a charm offensive to circulate his name around clubs in the Premier League, despite being under contract at Fenerbache for 18 more months.
Jose Mourinho has alerted the lower-level Premier League clubs by saying: “The best thing I have to do is when I leave Fener is that I go to a club that doesn’t play in UEFA competition. So a club at the bottom in England who needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go.“ This has put almost half of the Premier League on alert.
This comes just a few days after former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss would be “very keen” on taking over at the London Stadium.
However, West Ham are unlikely to be one of those clubs. the finances involved in parting ways with Lopetegui and getting Mourinho out of his Fenerbahce contract, before even considering Jose’s wages would likely prove too expensive for the Irons.
West Ham could pull the trigger on Julen Lopetegui if results and performances in the next two against Newcastle and Arsenal continue how they are. The club is expected to go for a more younger and progressive coach with Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness and former Hammers coach Edin Terzic both rumoured to be in the frame.
