With Julen Lopetegui under major pressure at West Ham United, many have called for other options to replace the 58-year-old Spaniard.
West Ham have struggled this season under Lopetegui, who had many question marks heading into another Premier League season after abruptly leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2023.
West Ham are currently 14th on the Premier League table, with 3 wins from 11 games, before their important encounter away at Newcastle this evening.
As the current West Ham manager is threatened to lose his role, there are genuine links to Celtic coach and former Liverpool and Leicester City manager Brendan Rogers, who has spoken to the media about the links to the east London club.
Rodgers’s comments to 67 Hail Hail suggest that he won’t be leaving the Scottish powerhouse club Celtic anytime soon.
“What did I say on my first day here? Three years unless I get bumped early! Listen, I said I’d be here for three years. At the end of three years, I’ll have done nearly six years as a Celtic manager which is a long time for a Celtic manager. I haven’t really thought about it.
Rodgers has a history of leaving Celtic midway through a campaign, taking the Leicester City job in the middle of the 2018-19 season. But this time around, Rodgers insists leaving Celtic during the 2024 season isn’t an option.
“For near on a year, there were probably more people that wanted me out than in so I’m not going to be talking about new contracts now! I just need to continue to work well, do my very best for the club and I’m pretty sure at some point next season we can see how we’re going and take it from there.
“But at the minute, I love my life here, it’s amazing club to work in. Funny enough, going away and coming back has made it even better for me because I knew what I missed when I was away. I’m not in a big rush to be leaving again. It’s a great place to be, I love working with the players.
The 51-year-old isn’t taking any managerial role for granted, saying he’s grateful for his current role at Celtic.
“They say in life, the biggest currency you have is time. As you get to 51 and older, you realise that. Time around people you love, your family, your workplace. And I would have to agree with that. Where I am at the minute, I’m at a brilliant place so we’ll just keep it that way.”
But for now, Rodgers remains a Celtic manager, in a season where he is well and truly proving his worth.
Celtic currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership, 3 points in front of Aberdeen.
