Aaron Wan-Bissaka was delighted to get his first goal for West Ham in their 2-0 win over Newcastle.

A surprising result and performance by West Ham against Newcastle was met with an even more surprising goal scorer.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s first goal in claret and blue couldn’t have come at a better time. After an impressive first-half performance, the Hammers really needed a second to put the game to bed. Thankfully, the right-back did just that after making a superb run which allowed him to receive a driven cross from Jarrod Bowen, which he tucked away into the bottom left corner.

Despite being a more defensive right-back, the Englishman was absolutely overjoyed to score his first goal for the club, and he hints that it was down to the partnership he and Bowen are forming on the right. “It was a proud moment [to score my first West Ham United goal] and to score it in today’s game after a big team performance as well,” Wan-Bissaka told the official site.

“As the ball came to me, I wanted to just hit it as soon as possible, so that’s what I did, and thankfully it went in off the post. I enjoyed the celebrations as well.”

“We played well tonight and stuck together as a unit right until the end and also managed to keep a clean sheet, which is important.”

“I’m really enjoying playing with him [Bowen],” he explained, “and I’m beginning to understand him more each game, and I am learning when to make runs down the line and when not to make them,”

While the defender has enjoyed a bright start to life in East London, the same can’t be said for Julen Lopetegui. However, he believes that the impressive win could be a springboard to success and he explained how the manager expects this sort of performance to be on display consistently.

“I feel like a result like this has been coming. We’ve been training very hard, especially over the break, and we came here today and showed it. We will head into the game against Arsenal on Saturday with confidence and continue to play together as a team.”

“He [Julen Lopetegui] has told us that is just the start, and we need to push on from this result from here and keep on going.”
