Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney has sung the praises of three West Ham aces for their performances against Newcastle.

While the result was a surprise to practically everyone, the level of performance that West Ham showed at St James’ Park came out of nowhere.

For all except one of the games prior, they had looked like a team without identity and without spirit, but the opposite was true against Newcastle. Every single player put in a stellar display, but former/striker-turned-pundit Troy Deeney highlights three in particular to go into his team of the week.

“He [Aaron Wan-Bissaka] obviously got his goal but he was excellent defensively against Newcastle. He did brilliantly to shut down Anthony Gordon and there are really good signs of the guy that was signed for such big money from Crystal Palace all those years ago,” he wrote for BBC Sport.

“He [Kilman] is growing week by week. An absolute monster.”

“Holding midfielder, he [Tomas Soucek] got the goal at Newcastle with a really good header. You could see this happening. It was miles better by West Ham.”

All three of these undoubtedly deserve to be praised, but that shouldn’t undermine just how good the likes of Bowen, Antonio, Soler, etc were.
