A reported Julen Lopetegui replacement was spotted in the stands, but it’s unlikely to mean anything.

Before the Newcastle game, confidence amongst West Ham fans was at an all time low. No one expected the Hammers to win, especially not in the fashion that they did.

While it didn’t move them up the table, it was a massive three points. Not only does it leave them still well in the race for European football, but it also seems to have saved Lopetegui his job for the time being.

Reports have suggested that Graham Potter was being lined up as a replacement for the Spaniard, with Football Insider reporting that he was spotted in the stands at Arsenal’s game, with some suggesting this was in preparation for the Irons next match.

However, the article states that he would not be considered for the job anyway. The board have admitted previously that they think Potter was only successful at Brighton due to their excellent recruitment.

On top of this, the likelihood of Lopetegui getting sacked even if Newcastle win comfortably would have been very slim.

For now, Lopetegui’s job is somewhat secure, but even if it wasn’t Potter would be an unlikely replacement.
